Noah Galloway Talks Challenges of Competing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as a Double Amputee

For Army veteran and double amputee Noah Galloway, competing on Dancing with the Stars isn’t exactly a dream come true — because he never thought it would be possible for him to be a contestant.

In an exclusive interview with ‘Closer Weekly,’ Noah, 33, said, “It wasn’t something I’d ever thought about doing. They contacted me and just wanted to know if I thought I could do it with me being an above-the-knee amputee and missing my arm and I thought, ‘I guess I could.’”

“I really just figured it was a great opportunity for me to take on a new challenge,” he continued.

For her part, Noah’s pro dancing partner, Sharna Burgess, 29, is working hard to creatively choreograph dances that work with the star’s physical constraints.

“I’m really discovering how his body moves and what the possibilities are for him and for our choreography. There are limitations, but then there are also other great things that we can do,” she told ‘Closer.’

“I told Sharna that I’m a work as hard as I can kind of guy. What I’m lacking in limbs I’ll make up for in determination,” Noah added. “My mentality is just to go week-to-week… But knowing she wants [to win] makes me want it really bad for her.”

“I think they have a lot of doubts in my dancing abilities, but they are very excited. All three of my children will be at that first show. They’ve been very supportive in everything that’s happened,” Noah told ‘Closer.’

The ‘DWTS’ season 10 premiere airs tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.
